Ashutosh Maurya's 35 Off 11 Starts the Fireworks as hamzad's 71 Lifts Calcutta Challengers to 11-Run Win Over Thunder Strikers
Ashutosh Maurya's quick-fire start and hamzad's 10-six 71 set up 149, and Suraj Prahladka's 3/16 helps Calcutta Challengers defend it against Thunder Strikers' 138/9
Calcutta Challengers defended 149 all out in 12 overs to beat Thunder Strikers by 11 runs, who finished on 138/9 in their 13 overs. Ashutosh Maurya set the tone with a blazing 35 off 11 balls at the top of the order, hamzad smashed a fantastic 71 off 26, and Suraj Prahladka struck three early blows with the ball to put the chase on the back foot.
Ashutosh Maurya's Quick-Fire Start
Opening the innings, Ashutosh Maurya wasted no time, taking the Thunder Strikers attack apart with 35 off just 11 balls — four fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 318.18. His burst took Calcutta Challengers to 36 inside the first two overs, before he fell to a catch by substitute Alok Kumar off Qamar Khan Cricket at 36/1 in the 2nd over. It was exactly the kind of start a 12-over innings demands.
hamzad Powers the Total With 10 Sixes
After the quick start, the innings dipped, with Suraj Prahladka (0 off 5) and Golok Bera (2 off 4) both falling cheaply, leaving Calcutta Challengers at 79/4 in the 6th over. That was when hamzad took charge. He crashed 71 off 26 balls — 10 sixes and no boundary fours — at a strike rate of 273.08, alongside a useful 22 off 12 from P D (two fours, two sixes). Calcutta Challengers were 140/6 when hamzad finally fell, bowled by Abdul Rahman in the 11th over.
The late order then collapsed — the last five wickets fell for just 23 runs, with two run outs among them — to leave Calcutta Challengers all out for 149 in 12.0 overs. Abdul Rahman took 4/30 in 3 overs for Thunder Strikers, with Alok Kumar (2/25, economy 8.33) also excellent.
Suraj Prahladka Rips Through the Top Order
The 150 chase was very nearly derailed before it began. Suraj Prahladka removed Yogi Thakur and Sovandeep Biswas with the first two balls of the innings, both caught by Paul Zomi, leaving Thunder Strikers on 0/2, and later bowled Qamar Khan Cricket to finish with 3/16 in 3 overs (economy 5.33, nine dot balls), the most economical spell of the match.
Thunder Strikers Fight Back Before Falling Short
From 29/4, Alok Kumar hit a rapid 40 off 21 (three fours, three sixes) and captain Abdul Rahman cracked 19 off 5 (three sixes) to keep Thunder Strikers in the game, until Paul Zomi struck twice in two balls to remove Rahman and Debendra Kumar Sahoo at 74/7. Arshad (15* off 8) and Ehsan Ali (4* off 2) fought on in the closing overs, but the target was too far away.
Supporting Cast for Calcutta Challengers
Paul Zomi finished with 2/23, while Tanmay Karmakar (1/17), P D (1/29), Golok Bera (1/20, the wicket of Alok Kumar) and Sachin Saroj (1/14, the wicket of Avinash) each took a wicket in a disciplined all-round bowling effort.
Looking Ahead
Ashutosh Maurya's fast start and hamzad's brutal 71 gave Calcutta Challengers enough, and a tight bowling display led by Suraj Prahladka's three wickets made sure of it. For Thunder Strikers, Alok Kumar's 40 and Abdul Rahman's four wickets were bright spots in a narrow defeat.
