Calcutta Challengers made it another satisfying afternoon, beating Newtown Kings Legend by 20 runs after posting 151/7 in 13 overs and bowling their opponents out for 131 in 12.4. Man of the Match Paul Zomi was the difference across both innings — a blistering 56 off 22 balls with the bat, followed by 2/29 with the ball. Golam Masud (54 off 32) laid the platform alongside him, Debangshu was once again the man with the golden arm with 3/24, and Sovandeep Biswas landed the knockout blow of the innings — two wickets in a single over — to make sure Newtown Kings Legend never got close.
Golam Masud and Paul Zomi Build a Competitive 151
Opening the innings, Golam Masud set the tone with a composed yet aggressive 54 off 32 balls — two fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 168.75 — anchoring the innings while wickets fell around him. At the other end, Paul Zomi played the innings of the day: 56 off just 22 balls, with a single four and six sixes, striking at a remarkable 254.55. Between them the pair carried CC from the powerplay all the way to 145 in the 12th over. The middle order had a torrid time in between — Sourav Sardar struck three times in the space of four balls (9.3 to 10.0 overs), removing Golam Masud, Raju and Ashutosh Maurya to briefly stall CC at 100/4 — but Paul Zomi’s continued assault, plus handy cameos from Sovandeep Biswas (8 off 7) and the tail, pushed the total up to a defendable 151/7.

Defending 151, Calcutta Challengers needed early wickets and a spell that could break the chase’s spine — and Debangshu delivered exactly that, just as he has done for CC before. His 3 overs for 24 runs (economy 8.00) accounted for three of Newtown Kings Legend’s most important wickets: Md Samad (19), the well-set Mohabbat (34 off 23, three fours and two sixes) and the dangerous Sudip late on. Newtown Kings Legend threatened a fightback when SUBHO YT counter-attacked with a rapid 42 off 16 balls (five sixes, SR 262.50), briefly threatening to drag the required rate back into reach. Paul Zomi, fresh off his fifty, backed it up with the ball — 2/29, removing Sourav Sardar and Akash Das — the kind of complete all-round display that made him the clear choice for Man of the Match.
