Golam Masud's 90 and 3/29, Ashutosh Maurya's 27* off 6 Power Calcutta Challengers to 6-Wicket Win Over Thunder Strikers
Calcutta Challengers chase down 172 in 11.3 overs with 9 balls to spare as Masud's all-round heroics are capped by a skipper's finish from Ashutosh Maurya
Calcutta Challengers chased down 172 in just 11.3 overs to beat Thunder Strikers by 6 wickets, with 9 balls to spare. A superb all-round performance from Golam Masud — 90 with the bat and 3/29 with the ball — built the win, and captain Ashutosh Maurya finished it in style with an unbeaten 27 off 6 balls.
Golam Masud: 90 and Three Wickets
Thunder Strikers posted 171/6 in their 13 overs, and it was Golam Masud who did the most to keep them in check with the ball, taking 3/29 in 3 overs (economy 9.67, seven dot balls). He removed the dangerous Yogi Thakur (32 off 13), then Praveen (21 off 8) and Arshad (bowled for a duck), the last two falling in the space of two overs at 145/4, 145/5 and 145/6.
In the chase he went one better. Masud smashed 90 off 35 balls — six fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 257.14 — before falling to Yogi Thakur at 145/3 in the 11th over, with the target well within sight. An opening stand of 75 with Sovandeep Biswas (19 off 14, retired hurt) and a rapid 26 off 10 from P D (one four, three sixes) kept the required rate firmly under control.
Ashutosh Maurya Seals It
Calcutta Challengers lost Raju Akter (7 off 3) at 158/4, with 14 still needed, but skipper Ashutosh Maurya was in no mood to let the chase drag. He took the game away in a flash, hammering an unbeaten 27 off just 6 balls — two fours and three sixes, a strike rate of 450.00 — to take Calcutta Challengers to 172/4 in 11.3 overs and finish the game with 9 balls in hand. It was a captain's finish in every sense, and exactly the way a chase should be wrapped up.
Ashutosh also made a mark with the ball, bowling Debendra Kumar Sahoo for 56 off 22 (three fours, six sixes) to end the opening stand at 75/1, finishing with 1/36 in 3 overs.
Thunder Strikers' Notable Performances
Opener Debendra Kumar Sahoo led the way for Thunder Strikers with a blazing 56 off 22 and put on 75 for the first wicket with Avinash (22 off 18). Yogi Thakur added 32 off 13 (three fours, three sixes) and later took 2/50 with the ball, while captain Abdul Rahman finished unbeaten on 19 off 7 (three sixes) and Rajni Kant added 6 off 3. With the ball, Ehsan Ali was the pick for Thunder Strikers with 2/34 in 3 overs (economy 11.33), dismissing Biswajeet Dey and P D.
Supporting Cast for Calcutta Challengers
Alongside Golam Masud's three wickets, P D (1/16) and Raju Akter (1/19) picked up a wicket each, while Kunal Gupta kept things tight with just 10 conceded in his one over.
Looking Ahead
Thunder Strikers scored 171 and still ended up well beaten, which says plenty about how good this Calcutta Challengers chase was. Golam Masud's brilliant all-round day and Ashutosh Maurya's finishing flurry make this one of the most complete wins of the season.
