Golok Bera's 100 Off 28 Sets Up a Huge Total
Golok Bera and captain Ashutosh Maurya began with a 93-run opening stand in 5.3 overs, which ended when Ashutosh was caught by wicketkeeper Sovan Naskar off Joydip pramanick for 24 off 15 (two fours and two sixes). Paul Zomi then struck 25 off 10 with four fours and a six before he was caught by Munazir off Maddy at 119/2 in 7.2 overs.
Golok Bera retired hurt at 184 after 9.3 overs with 100 off 28 balls, four fours, twelve sixes and a strike rate of 357.14, which was more than half of the team's runs at that point.
Tanmay Karmakar and the Finish
Tanmay Karmakar was the fastest scorer of the lot, hitting 44 off 12 (one four and six sixes, SR 366.67) before he was caught by Sovan Naskar off Joydip pramanick at 217/3 in 11.2 overs. Raju Akter made 13 off 6 before falling to Joydip too at 225/4, and Golam Masud finished 4 not out off 3. The last three wickets fell for five runs, all to Adil, who had Sovandeep Biswas bowled and Satyakam and Samrat caught, and finished with 3/25 and five dot balls at the best economy of the Shadow Knights attack, 8.33. Joydip pramanick also took 3/33, with the wickets of Ashutosh, Tanmay and Raju.
It was an expensive day for the other Shadow Knights bowlers. Sovan Naskar conceded 57 in two overs, including six sixes, Maddy went for 45 in two, Munazir gave away 29 in one over with a no-ball, and Adnan went for 27 in his only over. Calcutta Challengers hit 22 sixes, and the innings had 18 extras (17 wides and a no-ball).
Sovan Naskar's 74 Off 26 Keeps Shadow Knights in the Chase
Chasing 231 in 13 overs, Shadow Knights lost Sayed Mehedi (4 off 2, bowled by Satyakam) at 7/1 and Samir Ahmed (17 off 8, two sixes, caught by Satyakam off Raju Akter) at 41/2. Adnan hit 23 off 14 before being caught and bowled by Golam Masud at 69/3 in 5.4 overs.
Sovan Naskar then took the attack to Calcutta Challengers, striking 74 off 26 balls with five fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 284.62. With Maddy (21 off 17) he added 67 in 4.5 overs for the fourth wicket, and Shadow Knights reached 136/4 in 10.3 overs, but they were still well behind the required rate.
Ashutosh Maurya and Tanmay Karmakar Close It Out
Ashutosh Maurya broke the stand by catching Maddy off his own bowling at 136/4, and he then dismissed Sovan Naskar, caught by wicketkeeper Sovandeep Biswas, at 155/6 in 12.1 overs. He finished with 2/15 in two overs, including seven dot balls, an economy of 7.50, the best in the Calcutta Challengers attack. Tanmay Karmakar removed Joydip pramanick (1 off 4) at 148/5 and finished with 1/27, while Golam Masud took 1/17 at an economy of 8.50. Shankar Newtown (6* off 4) and Saubhik Singha (1* off 4) were left unbeaten as Shadow Knights ended on 157/6.
Not everything went Calcutta Challengers' way with the ball. Satyakam took 1/37 in three overs, Raju Akter took 1/45 with five sixes conceded, and Samrat went for 16 in his one over. Shadow Knights hit 13 sixes in their innings, and the match produced 35 sixes in all.
Looking Ahead
Golok Bera's 100 off 28, Tanmay Karmakar's 44 off 12 and Ashutosh Maurya's 24 and 2/15 gave Calcutta Challengers a 73-run win. Shadow Knights can take heart from Sovan Naskar's 74 off 26, the quick hitting of Adnan and Maddy in the middle overs, and the 3/25 and 3/33 from Adil and Joydip pramanick that brought the total back late in the innings.
