Golok Bera's Five-Wicket Haul Headlines Calcutta Challengers' 16-Run Win Over Royal Fighters
Man of the Match Golok Bera's 5/26 seals the win after Anindya Hazra's 43 laid the platform, Miraj's blistering 51 accelerated things, Hamzad's 46 off 18 (seven sixes) finished CC's innings at 176/5, and Golam Masud chipped in with 3/26
Calcutta Challengers beat Royal Fighters by 16 runs, defending 176/5 in 13 overs after Royal Fighters were bowled out for 160 in 12.1. CC's total was built in three distinct phases — Anindya Hazra gave the innings a rapid start with 43, Miraj accelerated things with a fine half-century before retiring hurt, and Hamzad finished the innings in explosive fashion with 46 off just 18 balls. In defence, it was Golok Bera who made the difference, claiming a superb 5-wicket haul to earn Man of the Match honours, with Golam Masud offering strong support with three wickets of his own.
Anindya Hazra Gives CC a Flying Start
After Raju Akter (13) and Masud Rana (2) fell early, Anindya Hazra made sure CC didn't lose momentum. His 43 off just 19 balls — two fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 226.32 — rebuilt the innings and set the platform for what followed, adding 71 for the third wicket before he was bowled by Prasant Panday.
Miraj Accelerates, Hamzad Finishes in Style
With the platform laid, Miraj took the innings to another level. His 51 off 26 balls — two fours and five sixes, a strike rate of 196.15 — was a genuine acceleration before he was forced to retire hurt with CC well placed. That brought Hamzad to the crease, and he made sure the innings finished with maximum impact: an explosive 46 off just 18 balls, with seven sixes and a strike rate of 255.56, dragging CC from a strong position to a daunting 176/5. Between Miraj and Hamzad, CC added 66 runs in barely four overs.
Seven sixes in 18 balls. Hamzad's late-innings assault is what took CC from a good total to one Royal Fighters would need something special to chase down.
Golok Bera's Five-Wicket Haul Seals the Defence
Chasing 177, Royal Fighters got off to a promising start through Ajay (36) and a blistering Vivek Baluni, whose 44 off just 15 balls (four fours, four sixes, strike rate 293.33) briefly threatened to blow the chase wide open. But Golok Bera had other ideas. Bowling with remarkable control, he picked up 5 wickets for just 26 runs from his 3 overs, dismissing Ajay, Vivek Baluni, Prasant Panday, Deepak Bhosale and Sahil Bhagat to methodically dismantle the middle order. Golam Masud backed him up superbly, taking 3/26 of his own, and between them the pair accounted for eight of Royal Fighters' ten wickets. Aditya Kaushal's late 23 off 11 briefly threatened a twist, but Royal Fighters were bowled out for 160, 16 runs short of the target.
Five wickets, three overs, economy under 9 — against an attack that had just been taken for 44 off 15 balls. Golok Bera's spell is what turned a nervy defence into a comfortable one.
