Golok Bera's All-Round Masterclass Powers CC to a Ruthless 10-Wicket Demolition of New Town Buddies
Man of the Match Golok Bera claims 3/24 and smashes a quickfire cameo, while Miraj (45 off 17) and Nasir Uddin Baidya (31 off 11) blast Calcutta Challengers to 103 in just 7.4 overs
Calcutta Challengers produced one of their most ruthless performances of the season, restricting New Town Buddies to 102/5 and then chasing the target down inside 7.4 overs without losing a single genuine wicket. At the heart of it was Golok Bera, who took the game away from New Town Buddies with the ball before finishing it off with the bat — a complete all-round display that made him a comfortable choice for Man of the Match. Around him, Miraj and Nasir Uddin Baidya put on an opening blitz so fast that the chase was practically over before New Town Buddies could settle into the field.
Golok Bera Rips Through New Town Buddies' Middle Order
Put in to bowl first, Calcutta Challengers kept New Town Buddies pinned for much of the innings, and no one did more damage than Golok Bera. Returning figures of 3/24 in 3 overs at an economy of 8.00, he was the standout bowler on either side. He struck first by having Nilesh Kumar (30) hole out via a sharp caught-and-bowled, then came back to remove New Town Buddies' captain Dhruba Shyam (20) caught behind the stumps off Latip Molla’s catch, before wrapping up the innings by bowling Dharam Raj (13) through the gate. Three wickets, three different modes of dismissal — the definition of a complete spell.
Latip Molla chipped in early, removing Rajib Das (0) inside the powerplay to give CC the perfect start, while Debangshu (0/21) and Sauvik Chaudhury (0/41) kept things tight around the boundary despite absorbing some late hitting. New Town Buddies were held to 102 for 5 in their 10 overs, with Soumen Majumder’s brisk 34 off just 13 balls — including 4 sixes — the only real counter-attack of the innings before he was run out by a substitute fielder.
3/24 in 3 overs. The best bowling figures of the match, and Golok Bera wasn’t finished yet.
Miraj and Nasir Uddin Baidya Blow the Chase Open
Chasing 103, Calcutta Challengers needed no time to settle. Miraj and Nasir Uddin Baidya tore into the New Town Buddies attack from the very first over, racing to 68 for the loss of no wicket inside four overs — a stand built entirely on clean, fearless hitting. Nasir was the more explosive of the two, striking 31 off just 11 balls with 4 sixes at a strike rate of 281.82 before retiring hurt at the end of a rampaging spell. Miraj, playing the bigger innings, brought up his own fifty-adjacent knock of 45 off 17 balls, hammering 6 fours and 3 sixes for a strike rate of 264.71, also retiring hurt with the target already in sight.
68 runs off 4 overs, no wickets down. New Town Buddies never got a foothold in the chase.
Golok Bera Finishes the Job
With his bowling work already done, Golok Bera walked out to bat with CC cruising at 81 for the loss of no genuine wicket, and needing just over 20 more to win. He didn’t take long. Striking 11 off just 4 balls, including a four and a six at a strike rate of 275.00, he helped push the total past 100 before retiring hurt himself, satisfied with a job well done at both ends of the innings. Nikhil Kumar (9*) and Reet Hasmin (1*) were at the crease to see CC over the line, completing the chase in a mere 7.4 overs at a run rate of 13.43 — without a single New Town Buddies bowler managing to take a genuine wicket.
Bowled 3 overs, took 3 wickets. Batted 4 balls, hit a four and a six. Golok Bera did it all.
