Calcutta Challengers chased down 147 in just 9.1 overs to beat New Town Buddies by 6 wickets with 23 balls to spare, after restricting them to 146/7 in 13 overs. Paul Zomi was the star of the show with a blazing 59 off 20 and a wicket, Debangshu took two wickets in a tight spell, and Sovandeep Biswas finished the job with an unbeaten 36 off 9.

Man of the Match: Paul Zomi

With Calcutta Challengers 20/1 after Golok Bera (14 off 9) was bowled by Nilesh Kumar in the 3rd over, Paul Zomi took over the chase. He smashed 59 off just 20 balls — five fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 295.00 — before being caught off Akash Raj at 99/3 in the 7th over, with the target well within reach. He had earlier made an impact with the ball as well, taking the wicket of Nilesh Kumar (caught by Golok Bera) for 1/10 in his single over, and was involved in the run out of Soumyadeep Ghosh with Raju Akter. An all-round performance that made him a clear choice for Man of the Match.

Debangshu Strikes Twice and Helps Anchor the Chase

With the ball, Debangshu was Calcutta Challengers' most economical bowler, finishing with 2/11 in 2 overs (economy 5.50, six dot balls). He bowled Sudip (28 off 12) at 100/2 and then had captain Dhruba Shyam caught by wicketkeeper Sovandeep Biswas at 103/3, two wickets that halted New Town Buddies' momentum. In the chase he added a useful 11 off 10 and a 57-run partnership with Paul Zomi (from 42/2 to 99/3) before falling to Aman Sinha at 134/4.

Sovandeep Biswas Finishes It in Style

Sovandeep Biswas walked in at 99/3 and ended the contest in a flash, hitting an unbeaten 36 off 9 balls — one four and five sixes, strike rate 400.00. Satyakam added 7 off 2 (one six) before retiring hurt at 142, and Premkumar Titus finished on 4* off 1. Raju Akter contributed 12 off 5 (one four and one six) earlier in the chase.

Suvojit Sarkar's 74 Not Enough for New Town Buddies

For New Town Buddies, Suvojit Sarkar top-scored with 74 off 41 balls (six fours and five sixes, SR 180.49), before being caught by Debangshu off Raju Akter at 134/6. Sudip added 28 off 12 (one four and three sixes), and Akash Raj finished with a flurry, hitting 17 not out off just 4 balls (one four and two sixes). With the ball in the chase, Aman Sinha was the pick for New Town Buddies with 2/35, while Nilesh Kumar took 1/18 and Akash Raj took 1/39.

Other Bowling Contributions

Satyakam bowled Romit Dutta for 10 to take 1/23, Premkumar Titus took 1/31 in 3 overs (bowling Cheboli Saikiran), and Raju Akter took 1/16 from his single over. Captain Ashutosh Maurya was economical with 0/18 in 2 overs (economy 9.00, four dot balls), though Samrat went for 37 in 2 overs.

Looking Ahead

Calcutta Challengers' bowlers kept New Town Buddies under 150 despite Suvojit Sarkar's 74, and a blistering chase led by Paul Zomi and finished by Sovandeep Biswas ended the match with more than three overs to spare. New Town Buddies will need to tighten up their bowling after conceding 147 in under ten overs.
