Paul Zomi's Bowling Effort and Ashutosh Maurya's All-Round Fight Fall Short as Umesh Mahakur's MOM Special Lifts Elite 11 Past CC
Umesh Mahakur's unbeaten 55 off 20 with six sixes wins him Player of the Match and powers Elite 11 to 174/8, Paul Zomi's 3/44 and Ashutosh Maurya's all-round day of 39* off 19 (5 sixes) plus 2/27 with the ball drag CC back into it, but Elite 11 hold on to win by 18 runs
Elite 11 held their nerve to beat Calcutta Challengers by 18 runs, defending 174/8 in 13 overs against a CC total of 156/8. Umesh Mahakur was named Player of the Match for a blistering unbeaten 55, Paul Zomi put in a superb bowling effort of 3/44 that repeatedly broke through the Elite 11 top order, and Ashutosh Maurya produced a complete all-round captain’s performance — an unbeaten 39 off 19 studded with five sixes, backed up by 2/27 with the ball. But despite both efforts, Umesh Mahakur’s explosive unbeaten 55 off 20 for Elite 11 proved decisive, and CC’s chase came up 18 runs short.
Umesh Mahakur Blitz Lifts Elite 11 to 174/8
Elite 11 lost early wickets regularly — Surajit Mondal (11 off 5), Kapil Kumar (11 off 13) and Zahid khan (21 off 14) all fell inside the first six overs, with Paul Zomi striking twice and Masud Rana once to leave Elite 11 46/4. Mayukh Ghosh (28 off 13, 4 fours, 1 six) briefly steadied things before Ashutosh Maurya had him bowled, but it was Umesh Mahakur who turned the innings on its head. Unbeaten on 55 off just 20 balls, with six sixes and a strike rate of 275.00, Mahakur took the total from a modest platform to a daunting 174/8, finding support from Piyush (17 off 5, SR 340.00) along the way. It was this one innings that ultimately proved the difference between the two sides.
Six sixes in 20 balls at a strike rate of 275 — Umesh Mahakur’s unbeaten 55 turned a recovering Elite 11 innings into a total CC could never quite run down.
Paul Zomi’s Relentless Bowling Effort
Paul Zomi was the busiest and most threatening bowler on either side. His 3/44 in 3 overs included the wickets of Kapil Kumar (caught and bowled), Zahid khan and Amit Gupta — three big breakthroughs that repeatedly halted Elite 11’s momentum before Mahakur took over. It was an expensive spell in the end, but Paul kept coming back for more and kept striking, denting Elite 11’s momentum time and again. Latip Molla was the most economical of the CC attack, going for just 21 in 3 overs (Eco 7.00) without reward, while Ashutosh Maurya chipped in with 2/27, removing Mayukh Ghosh and Piyush in the closing overs.
Ashutosh Maurya's All-Round Fight Falls Just Short
Chasing 175, CC lost hamzad for a duck in the first over and never quite found the platform they needed. Masud Rana (35 off 17, five sixes, SR 205.88) and Paul Zomi (13 off 9) added 44 for the second wicket, but a clatter of wickets — Tanmay Karmakar (15), Nasir Uddin Baidya (6) and Miraj (0) — left CC needing a big finish. Biswajeet Dey (29 off 11, 3 sixes, SR 263.64) provided one, and then Ashutosh Maurya produced the all-round day the captain’s armband demands: an unbeaten 39 off just 19 balls, five sixes, a strike rate of 205.26, dragging CC to within sight of the target. Suraj Prahladka stayed with him to the end, unbeaten on 12 off 6. But Rohit Kumar Singh’s disciplined 3/22 for Elite 11 — the best figures of the match — had done just enough damage in between, and CC finished on 156/8, 18 runs short.
Ashutosh Maurya's day summed up in two numbers: 39* off 19 with the bat, 2/27 with the ball. A genuine all-round effort from the captain — just not quite enough to get CC over the line.
