Sauvik's Match-Winning Six Caps an All-Round MOM Show as Tanmay's Flying Start and Nasir's Fifty Power CC to a 5-Wicket Win
Man of the Match Sauvik Chaudhury claims 3/42 and finishes the chase with a six, Nasir Uddin Baidya top-scores with a blazing 50, and Tanmay Karmakar's explosive 29 off 7 sets the tone as CC chase down New Town Buddies' 150 with overs to spare
Calcutta Challengers made light work of a chase against New Town Buddies, cruising to a 5-wicket win with more than an over to spare after being set 151. Sauvik Chaudhury was named Man of the Match for a complete all-round performance — three wickets with the ball and an unbeaten finish with the bat, capped off by the six that sealed the game. Nasir Uddin Baidya was the best batter on view with a blistering fifty, while Tanmay Karmakar set the platform with an explosive opening burst that meant CC never had to look back.
Tanmay Karmakar Returns From a Break and Never Lets Up
Coming back into the side after time out, Tanmay Karmakar wasted no time announcing himself, opening the innings with an electric 29 off just 7 balls — one four and four towering sixes at a strike rate of 414.29. It was as if the breeze off the hills had put fire in his blades — ball after ball disappeared into the sky, and by the time he was finally dismissed by Nilesh Kumar with the score on 35, CC already had the momentum firmly in their grip. The team never looked back from that opening flurry.
Four sky-kissing sixes in seven balls to open the chase — Tanmay Karmakar set a tone that New Town Buddies never recovered from.
Masud Rana Adds More Fuel to the Fire
With Tanmay blazing away at one end, Masud Rana matched the intent at the other, striking a rapid 30 off 10 balls — two fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 300.00. The pair put on 35 runs inside the first two overs between them across their respective innings, and by the time Masud Rana fell, CC were already well ahead of the required rate with the platform firmly set for the big scores to follow.
Nasir Uddin Baidya: The Best Batter of the Match
Nasir Uddin Baidya then took over and simply took the game away from New Town Buddies, striking a magnificent 50 off just 19 balls — three fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 263.16 — before retiring hurt with the total already well past the danger zone. It was the standout individual knock of the match on either side, combining clean hitting with genuine control, and it left CC needing only a handful of late-order contributions to finish the job.
Sauvik Chaudhury: Man of the Match, and He Finishes It Himself
Sauvik Chaudhury's all-round contribution ran through the entire match. Bowling first, he was New Town Buddies' chief tormentor, returning 3/42 in 3 overs to remove Uday (caught and bowled), Aakash Banka (29) and Rajib Das (32) — three of New Town Buddies' top six — and restricting what could otherwise have been a much larger total. Then, with CC closing in on the target, he walked out to bat and finished the chase in style, striking an unbeaten 7 off 2 balls including the winning six that sent CC home with wickets and overs to spare. Three wickets, a match-sealing six, and the Man of the Match award to go with it — a complete performance.
Debangshu Marks His Return With a Peach of a Yorker
Back in the CC line-up after a long break, Debangshu made an instant impression, producing one of the deliveries of the match — a perfectly directed yorker that speared through Aman Sinha's defences to knock back the stumps. He followed it up by removing wicketkeeper Mohabbat (11) as well, finishing with 2/22 in 3 overs at an economy of just 7.33, the tightest spell among CC's frontline bowlers on the day — a welcome-back effort to remember.
Moinur and Sovandeep Biswas Do Their Part
The support cast held up their end too. Sovandeep Biswas struck early, removing Chandu to give CC a foothold in the innings, while Moinur bowled a couple of disciplined overs through the middle to help keep New Town Buddies from running away with the total after their brisk start. Between Sauvik, Debangshu, Sovandeep and Moinur, New Town Buddies were kept to 150/8 — a total that always looked within range once CC's top order got going.
Samrat's Lone Blemish in an Otherwise Dominant Chase
The only real hiccup for CC came from Samrat, who fell without scoring after picking out the fielder with a lofted shot over deep point, holing out for a duck off just his second ball. It barely registered on the scoreboard, though — with the platform Tanmay, Masud Rana and Nasir had already built, and Sauvik there to finish things off, the wicket did nothing to slow CC's march to victory.
