Calcutta Challengers put on a complete, pure dominant performance to beat Rising Stars by 21 runs, posting 132/7 in 13 overs before bowling the chase out for 111 in 13 overs. It was an all-round show built on Tanmay Karmakar’s 54 off 32 — six sky-kissing sixes on a pitch that was never easy to time on — and finished off with 3/28 through the middle overs. Golok Bera and Suraj Prahladka made sure Rising Stars never got going with the bat: Golok struck with the very first ball of his opening over, removing two batters in that same over on his way to 3/16, while Suraj struck inside his first over as well. Masud Rana’s brisk 32 gave the total its base, while Golam Masud’s 1/19 from three overs was the most economical spell of the match. Rising Stars simply had no answer to the CC attack all evening.

Tanmay and Masud Rana Build a Competitive 132/7

Batting first on a surface that was doing enough to keep the bowlers interested, Tanmay Karmakar set the tone from the top. His 54 off 32 balls was the innings of the match — six sixes launched skywards, several of them sailing well over the ropes, before he was caught at deep midwicket off Alok Kumar with the score on 105. Masud Rana played the perfect second fiddle, striking six fours in a busy 32 off 22 (SR 145.45) to keep the scoreboard moving before falling to Rishav Dubey. Between them, Tanmay and Masud Rana were responsible for 86 of CC’s first 105 runs.

The chief destroyer for Rising Stars was Md Zafar Alam, whose 4/15 in two overs (economy 7.50) ripped through the CC middle and lower order — removing Golam Masud, Usman Gazi, Nasir Uddin Baidya and Ashutosh Maurya inside the space of a few overs. But with Tanmay and Masud Rana having already done the heavy lifting, and Golok Bera finishing unbeaten on 9 off 8, CC still posted a total that always looked competitive on this pitch: 132/7 in 13 overs.

Tanmay Karmakar’s sixes didn’t just clear the ropes — they went sky-kissing, one after another, setting the tone for a total that always looked a par score.

Suraj Prahladka Strikes Inside a Tight Opening Over

Defending 132, Calcutta Challengers could not have asked for a better start. Suraj Prahladka opened the bowling and, inside that very first over, had Toxic caught and bowled — Rising Stars 3/1 before the innings was even a full over old. It was the perfect statement of intent, and it set the platform for everything that followed. Suraj came back later in the innings to also account for Alok Kumar, finishing with 2/18 in 2 overs — a beautiful, disciplined spell that gave Rising Stars no room to breathe from the outset.

Golok Bera: A Wicket With His Very First Ball

If Suraj lit the fuse, Golok Bera lit the fire. Introduced into the attack for the second over, he struck with the very first ball of his spell — Abhishek Mandal caught behind by Tanmay Karmakar — and then had masoom Ahmad bowled two balls later — two wickets inside his first over, Rising Stars reduced to 11/3 before the game was even four overs old. Golok returned in the fourth over to bowl Avinash Kumar as well, finishing with a superb 3/16 from 2 overs at an economy of exactly 8.00. His deliveries had bounce and seam movement that Rising Stars’ batters simply could not read — the kind of hostile, well-directed opening burst you would expect on a fast, bouncy pitch rather than a club ground.

Two wickets in his very first over, a third soon after — Golok Bera and Tanmay Karmakar both produced pure peaches of deliveries, ably backed up by Debangshu in the middle overs.

Rahul Jaiswal Fights, But the Asking Rate Never Eases

With Rising Stars reeling at 29/5 inside four overs, only Rahul Jaiswal offered any real resistance. His 38 off 24 balls, laced with six fours and a six (SR 158.33), was the one genuine counter-attack of the innings and briefly threatened to drag Rising Stars back into contention. But he ran out of partners — Golam Masud had him bowled in the tenth over, ending the last real threat to CC’s total. Golam Masud’s figures of 1/19 in 3 overs (economy 6.33) made him the most economical bowler on either side, a crucial squeeze in the middle overs that never allowed Rising Stars to build momentum. Debangshu (1/30 in 3) and Tanmay Karmakar, who returned to finish with 3/28 and mop up the tail — Ayush Pathak, Bishnu Mishra and Ranjit Kumar all fell to him — ensured Rising Stars were bowled out for 111 with 10 balls unused.

From 29/5 to all out for 111, Rising Stars never found a way past a CC attack that bowled with control and intent all evening. It was, from first ball to last, a pure dominant performance from Calcutta Challengers.
